Ecurie Ecosse - D-Type Jaguar, 1957 Le Mans Winner #3 Ron Flockhart/Ivor Bueb
Amalgam Fine Model Cars are proud to announce the launch of their
association with Ecurie Ecosse, at a Champagne Reception at the Bremont
Boutique in Mayfair on Wednesday 3rd July 2013. Amalgam are
working closely with Ecurie Ecosse to create a superb collection of
models reflecting this famous team’s outstanding achievements past and
present.
On display at the Bremont Boutique will be the first in a Limited
Edition of 99 incredibly detailed 1:8 scale hand-made models of the 1957
Le Mans Winning D-Type Jaguar #3, finished in the distinctive Flag Blue
Metallic paint.
During the ‘57 race, the 3.8 litre D-Types were arrayed against some
fearsome opposition including a 3.7-litre Aston Martin six, V-12
Ferraris as big as 4.1, and a pair of 4.5-litre V-8 Maseratis. One by
one, the bigger cars ran themselves into the ground, and as early as the
end of the third hour, an Ecurie Ecosse D-Type was in the lead. Driven
by Ron Flockhart and Ivor Bueb, it led the race for the next 21 hours,
setting a new distance record of 2,732.8 miles (4,398.0 km).
Amalgam have modelled this car exactly as it appeared in the race,
with every detail of its exterior, interior and engine bay replicated in
precise detail at 1:8 scale. Creating an Amalgam model is a
time-consuming process involving small teams of highly skilled model
makers. For each model a master set of components is created, using a
combination of digital machining, traditional engineering and hand
crafting skills. Developing the master model patterns for the D-Type
took well over 3,000 hours of dedicated work, with each individual model
taking a further 300 hours to build. The Amalgam Ecurie Ecosse D-Type
has over a thousand individual components.
